You can't eat just one!

We had a party at our house this weekend to introduce our niece to all of our friends and family. As usual, during a party, I let the kids eat whatever they want within reason. Aidan asked for his favorite, Lays potato chips, so I got a plate and settled him down at a table to eat. A few minutes later, Aidan got up and drug his chair with him across the room. He stopped in front of the food table and placed the chair directly in front of the bowl of chips. He plunked down in his chair and proceeded to reach into the bowl and help himself to the chips!

Sympathy Weight

While swimming at our hotel the other day, the kids asked to get in the hot tub. I responded that I couldn't get in because it would be too hot for the baby in my belly. The kids thought this over and Reese responded: "What about the baby in daddy's belly?"

Scary swim trunks

Getting ready for the beach the other day, Aidan asked to wear his "scary" swim trunks. I wasn't sure what scary swim trunks were, so I showed him the ones we brought. He chose his trunks with a skull and crossbones on the butt and exclaimed, "These will scare the fishies away!"

A Pirate's Life for Me!

I bought each of the kids a roll of pictures and markers to color on our vacation. Aidan immediately unrolled the pictures and revealed the cardboard tube inside. He decorated it with his markers and then decided it needed a little something extra to make it a spyglass. He went into the bathroom while I was preoccupied organizing some stuff in the room. Next thing I know Randy is screaming at Aidan to stop and get out of the bathroom. I run in to see what is going on and find Aidan with a pile of toilet paper on the floor in front of him. He decided that he needed another tube for his spyglass and knew exactly where to find one! Though I was mad at him for wasting the roll of toilet paper, I was pretty impressed that he had figured out a way to make his spyglass all on his own.

The next day as he was playing with his new spyglass, he said, "Mommy, I only need one more thing."

Me: "Oh yeah, what's that?"

Aidan: "A parrot!"

This kid is going to be in heaven when we make it to Peg Leg Pete's (a pirate themed restaurant) for dinner one night during our vacation!

Reesisms-Spring Break Edition

As we drive over the state line into Florida for our family vacation we announce that we are finally in Florida. Reese immediately responds, "Mommy, it's just like in my dreams!"

After checking into our hotel we spend some time wandering around. While wandering around the pool, Reese happened to see her great aunt Linda and cousin Lindsay. She came running up to me and said, "Mommy, there is something new here!" Thinking that it is something new by the pool, I am suprised when she announces, "It's Lindsay!"

Cowgirl

The other night we were playing Country Dance on the Wii. As is usual the second we walk in the door, Reese was dressed in nothing but her underwear. After dancing to a song or two, she said, "Hold on a minute, I gotta go get something." She ran off to the basement and mudroom and returned a few minutes later with her pink cowgirl hat and black cowgirl boots. Now appropriately dressed she announced that we could resume the game!

Get me out of here!

This past weekend we went to Dubuque for my nephew's baptism. Colton had woken up so we were taking turns holding him. Aidan was so excited and kept asking when it was his turn. Finally, his turn came around and he settled into a chair. I carefully placed Colton in his outstretched arms and continued to support his neck and head. Not even 5 seconds later, Aidan was pushing Colton out of his arms and trying to get out of the chair, saying "Get me out of here!" I don't know what came over him, but he very suddenly decided that he was done! This makes me wonder how he will be when his own little brother or sister joins us in just a few short months? That is one of the things that I am most excited about, seeing the kids reaction to their new sibling and watching how they interact together.

More magic

After shovelling the driveway and deck after a very heavy, slushy snowfall, I sat down to take a break. Soon after Aidan asked me to come over and watch what he was doing. I responded that I was stuck in the spot I was in and could not move! He immediately waved his hand in the air like he held a magic wand and said, "Unstuck!" with a little flourish. Unfortunately, it did not have the desired effect of making me get up because now I was laughing so hard that I was afraid I may pee my pants!
